The Dictator series was produced by Studebakerfrom 1927 thru 1937. As they made refinements the Modeldesignations changed, often without regard to a "model year." In1929 Studebaker introduced the "New and Finer" Dictator Six at alower price. This headline greeted buyers in June of 1929. Thelonger, lower, more contoured body design, which appeared earlieron the higher priced Commander and President was now incorporatedinto the Dictator models. The GL Dictator was referred to by thefactory as a 1929-1930 model. Here are some of the importantfeatures of the "New and Finer" Dictator GL: 115'' wheelbase;improved and refined Dictator motor which for two years alreadyheld all speed and endurance records for stock cars under $1300;hydraulic shock absorbers front and rear; fore-shackled frontsprings; thin grip, steel core, safety steering wheel; fullyadjustable front seats and steering wheel; genuine mohairupholstery; amplified action four-wheel brakes; double drop frameof compound flange design; full vision, full ventilating steelbodies over hardwood foundation; all exterior brightwork inchromium. The car we have for sale is a 1929 Studebaker GLDictator, body style Q-3. It is a 4-passenger rumble seat coupe.Powered by a straight 6, it has fairly low rear end gearing, makingit perfect for easy cruising. The GL was produced from June of 1929- May of 1930. Based on the serial # this is a late production car,being part of the last 15% of the total production. Based on thefact that approximately 17,000 GLs were made and this car's bodynumber of 1074, this 4-passenger coupe is a rare model. This carhas been lovingly cared for by its current owner of approximately 8years, and it is only health issues that have driven the decisionto find a new home for this treasure. The car was local to andknown by is current owner for many years, and it was only throughpersistence that the car changed hands. It is mechanically sound.Issues that needed to be addressed have been done. They includethings such as kingpin replacements, radiator coring, new fuel pump(it has an auxiliary electric pump which is not needed now that acorrect placement in in place, refurbishing and refinishing theartillery wheels, and a repaint in a beautiful cream and tanleather color scheme about 5 years ago. The paint shows no signs ofwear or deterioration. The bright work has not been touched and isdazzling. The interior cabin appears to be all original, right downto the "mother-in-law" over the rear window. It shows normal signsor wear, but no major defects. The car is driven regularly forshort distances in the pleasant months, accumulating about 3-4000miles during this ownership. The odometer shows approximately 87000miles but true mileage is unknown. This is a car ready to drive andenjoy. (See the videos) It is a winner at any local show and supercompetitive at bigger shows. In addition to this prize there arenumerous parts correct for this car that go with the purchase. Theyinclude and complete engine and transmission, radiator, headlightbuckets and bar, front and rear end assemblies, four artillerywheel, three correct hubcaps and more.
