The model wasintroduced in May 1948. The VJ2 Willys Jeepster offered a fewoptions, and the first ones had a 134-cid four-cylinder "Go Devil"L-head engine. The transmission was a three-spaced manual with anoptional overdrive. In 1950, the engine was replaced by the"Hurricane" F-head engine. Willys introduced an up-rated Jeepsterin January 1949, and a 148-cid, 72-hp six-cylinder, side-valveengine became optional in July 1949. In 1950, the Jeepster receiveda facelift to become the Second Series VJ3 model. The grille becamemore V-shaped, with five horizontal bars. The Jeepster has anundeniable charm, and has nearly universal acceptance among carenthusiasts, equally welcome in the company of hot rods.
