Description:

1952 Plymouth Cambridge P23 Series Sedan The Plymouth Cambridge is a full-size automobile, produced byPlymouth from 1951 until 1953. It was Plymouth's base-range basemodel in its 1951 and 1952 lineups, along with the shorterwheelbase Concord and the sole base model for 1953. When it wasintroduced, it came with new features such as electric windshieldwipers and downdraft carburetors. It also had "Safe-guard" brakesthat had two hydraulic cylinders per front wheel instead of justone. It replaced the Deluxe, and was replaced by the Plaza for1954. The 1952 Plymouths looked similar to the prior models, withminor changes including round hood medallions, a revised hoodornament, and script instead of block letters on the nameplates. The Cranbrook Belvedere was given new roof and painttreatments. For consignment, a stunning presentation of a not oft seen highlyoriginal and very well preserved car. Our consignor states that the83,209 miles showing on the odometer are likely original, howeverthis cannot be proven as the title reads mileage exempt, but onelook at the brighter than bright chrome and stainless, wellpreserved interior and rust free body say those are original andwell cared for miles. With a beautiful Lido Green paint scheme, ultra clean interior, and a clean engine bay, you'll be hardpressed to find one of these models this clean or one at all forthat matter. So with that said, we proudly offer to you thisPlymouth Cambridge P23 sedan looking like it just rolled out of theshowroom in 1952. ExteriorA beautiful coat of shining paint in a single respray form of LidoGreen adorns the exterior straight steel panels of this massivepontoon sided car. All chrome on this car is beautifully preserved, and even the door handles retain their escutcheon guards to protectthe body from errant keys or fingernails. We need to look closelyand appreciate not only the Mayflower cloisonne badge on the hood, but also the swept back sailing ship hood ornament and Plymouthbadge hovering just below. Single headlights fit nicely into thefront quarters and flank the open mouth 3 tiered grille all inchrome on the sides. The lower bumper and a big front chromedgrille are spotless as are the add on bumperettes. All window trimis buttoned up and just beautiful as is the lightly tinted glassand slightly bulbous roof line of the passenger compartment. We arenearing the end of the pontoon fender styling age with slab sidedfront fenders and slightly outcropped pontoon rear fenders withCambridge script emblems in the front along with a short trim spearthat pauses at the 4 doors then picks up again a bit lower on therear fenders. Out back is another pristing guarded bumper hoveringbelow V-shaped tail lights on the fender tails and inboard chrometrimmed reverse lights Wide white 15-inch tires wrap Plymouthbadged wheel covers which are excellent. Overall, the exterior ofthis car is extremely fine in presentation with nary a flaw to befound in the miles deep finish. InteriorA swing of any of the 4 doors and we are in tan stitched broadclothheaven with dark green steel sills and brown vinyl lowers. The doorpanels remain original with only light wear and staining, as do the2 large benches which stretch within the door panel confines andare a stain and tear free mix of striped tan broadcloth andburgundy vinyl for the tubs and piping. The chrome window cranksand door releases are all in remarkably good condition as is thearmrest with its striped broadcloth trimming, adding just a bit ofcontrast to the otherwise tan field. The all-steel dash is drapedin taupe paint and has a panel in front of the driver of chromebezeled glass covered gauges which are as clean as a whistle.Additionally the interior dash abounds with cleanliness and chromefor the Mayflower badged radio delete panel, heater/defrostercontrols and beautiful fronting steering wheel. Black ribbed rubberflooring is up front and in the back a speckled gray carpeted matcovers the clean tan carpeting underneath. The factory installedcamel tan mohair headliner is in and finishes off this excellentlypreserved interior space. DrivetrainA 217.8ci in-line flathead 6-cylinder in just clean and pristinecondition resides under the hood and can be verified as originaland correct to the car. A 1-barrel carburetor feeds this engine, and a 3-speed manual transmission is strapped to the back of theengine. 3.90 gears for the rear, and we are all good to go.Ensuring proper fuel delivery is a new fuel tank and filter and theengine was recently treated to a tune up and oil change. UndercarriageSome surface rust is seen on the usual iron suspects such assuspension, interior wheels, and a bit of the frame, but all remainstructurally sound. Some surface rust also in the rocker area, butwhere body hangers meet the body is all clear. Independent coilspring suspension for the front and leaf springs on the rear arenoted as are 4-wheel drum brakes. A stock style single exhausthandles spent fossil removal with ease and ends with a singlechrome tip under the rear bumper. Drive-AbilityI deferred to our test driver for this one and he reported a quickstart, smooth idle, and much comfortable ease of operation. Not afireball in the acceleration department, but then again it is afamily cruiser, which it handles just perfectly. A clean driverwith no smoke and all functional save for the wipers that wouldn'twipe. Before you is a great example of a rarely seen model year and car, with nearly all features functional, beautiful exterior paint andchrome, snazzy interior, and smooth running engine and drivetrain.Even down to the trunk interior things are preserved so well onewould think they were back in 1952. A well-kept example ready toturn the key and enjoy immediately.
