Lot #162-XXXX Rolls Royce Silver Cloud II- Spartanburg, SouthCarolina one-owner with 58K miles. Miss Elisabeth Cates Walls("Flea" to her family and close friends) had a Rolls Royce, a 1928model, that her late husband had left her upon his passing in the1930's. In 1959 she decided she wanted a new one and her brother,McFarland Cates, a local textile magnate, offered to buy her one.He contacted the Rolls Royce retailer in England, and after gettingpaint and upholstery samples, he made a deal on one that wasalready in production. Miss Elisabeth sailed to England in early1960 and took delivery of her new Rolls. She and the new Rollsboarded The Cunard Queen Mary on April 20, 1960 for the trip hometo Spartanburg. In 1961, Miss Elisabeth hired a young Robert Gistto be her chauffer and butler. As of this date Mr. Gist has beenpredominately the only driver. Car was always garaged and coveredat her home in the country club community in Spartanburg. Miss Elisabeth was a lady of means, so she had a home in TheHighlands in North Carolina as well as a summer cottage inConnecticut. Robert saw to it that the Rolls was shipped viaflatbed to these homes when she was in residence there. Howevermost of her travels were on the city streets of Spartanburg, SouthCarolina where many of the older residents fondly remember seeingRobert driving Miss Elisabeth in this Rolls. The car was alsotransported by flatbed to be serviced as necessary at the nearestRolls dealer which was in High Point, North Carolina.Unfortunately, we lost Miss Elisabeth a while back, but Mr. Robertis still around and is using the Rolls as an occasional weddingvehicle for a Spartanburg church. However the family has decidedthat, after 64 years of ownership, it is time to pass MissElisabeth's beloved luxury car to a new owner/collector.We are proud to be the agent that the family has selected tofacilitate the sale of Miss Elisabeth's Rolls to the next luckycollector. Factory options include 6.5 Liter V-8, automatictransmission, electric windows, refrigeration (air conditioning),and electric antenna. We are selling it on the original one-ownerSouth Carolina title from 1960 and a mileage statement showing but58K miles. The car was repainted the original colors in the past 10years. Car starts, runs, and drives so it is ready for a vintagelimo service, wedding service, weekend cruising, or just garageart.
