1963 Volkswagen Dune Buggy Scooby met Speed Buggy in his feverish dream depicting a fantasy ofthe Mystery Solvers Club State Finals. Lord Infernicus capturedeveryone except the sidekicks. Guinea pigs appeared wearingidentical outfits to each of their human friends. Speed Buggy,Angel, and Principal Quinlan destroyed the connecting area soInfernicus wouldn't find them, however, Infernicus already foundthem and knocked them off the building and into the swimming pool,but they survived. Load up the surf boards, blow up the rubber ducky float, climb thenearest dune for some chill time at the beach, and you can do it instyle with this VW based dune buggy. All fiberglass construction ona shortened 1963 VW beetle frame and 1971 bus engine, some snazzywheels and high travel suspension, this convertible buggy is justda bomb for retro travel back in time. If you are going to do acommute, you might as well do it in style with this creation whichis residing in our South showroom where it is looking for a dune toclimb! ExteriorMolded fiberglass in the form of a shell and tub for some interiorseats make up this simplified body with floating fenders. It is byBerrien company and looks the part fer sur! Headlights like bugeyes protrude upwards from the inner fenders right next to thehood. An aluminum windshield frame is raked rearward and supportsthe front mounting for the black removable hardtop. The upper bodyis a screaming metal flake orange zonker and the bottom of the tubis black. The rear of this body is nice and high for the suspensiontravel and has dual tail lights looking like a 1963 bug. The singlezoom tube for the exhaust is emanating from the center. 15-inchpolished moon cap wearing white painted wheels are on all 4corners. Tires are a sand shifting 225/70R14 in front and a digging255/70R15 on back. InteriorBlack with vinyl makes up the seats showing in bomber style andtriangle stitched inserts in front and a low back wide seatmatching the buckets is in back. A large chromed roll bar is extrasecurity just in case a dune decides to give way, you areprotected, (somewhat!). The fiberglass molded dash utilizes thegauges and knobs from the original donor bug. Just below this dashis a sea of black flooring in a waterproof textured finish. A rallysteering wheel fronts the dash and a long EMPI shift lever reachesfor the driver. Definitely an open-air driving experience. DrivetrainA 1971 1600cc VW engine is firmly planted in the back and it has a1-barrel carburetor on top and uses the 4-speed manualtransmission. This engine is very clean and has a single zoom tubein chrome exit for dual exhaust and looks like new, it is in thatgood of condition. The engine and carburetor as well astransmission have been recently refreshed. A wide belly plateprotects the bottom end and is reinforced with a curved steel guardbar. On the back is a 4.375 final drive. UndercarriageA large steel pan protects virtually the entire floor pan area ofthis buggy. Clean VW metal is making up the molded floor pans andtoe kicks. Independent suspension for the front, and swing armswith transverse torsion bars are on back. Drum brakes are on all 4corners. Drive-AbilityPure fun, open air, and you can almost become 1 with thisinteresting build. Nice acceleration, great braking, and the engineruns tip top...top! So many of us go through like just using our cars to commute backand forth to work and go on the occasional vacation.
