Yet, may I suggest something...slightly moreanalog? Allow me to introduce you to the 1964 Porsche 356 C Coupe. Thisparticular example goes beyond simply being a classic, even beyonda piece of history. This vehicle belonged to Porsche legend AlwinSpringer. A man renowned in the world of Porsche for monumentalfeats in the golden era of racing. As quoted above, his philosophyshaped not only his work but the essence of Porsche's performance. This 1964 Porsche 356 C Coupe is not just a car; it's a legacy onwheels, driven by Alwin himself, whose fingerprints are on thesteering wheel as much as on the pulse of Porsche racinghistory. "The car sat for quite a while after I had purchased it, but Idecided to start working on it at one point," said Alwin. "Dieterhad much more experience working on them than me, so he oversaw therepairs and ensured they were done correctly. Except for theengine, he directly worked on it and the carburetors to make surethey were tuned perfectly." "Eric Bloss [Legendary Porsche engine builder] also worked on the356 engine," he said. Alwin chuckled as he mentioned Eric was 18when he had started working for him at ANDIAL. "For me, this car isspecial. I wanted a car that was safe and that we could drive up toLaguna Seca with our group of friends. I have very fond memories ofthose times." Alwin Springer's passion for precision engineering and his inherentaffinity for the Porsche brand led him to join the ranks of VasekPolak's renowned Porsche dealership in Hermosa Beach, California. It was here, amidst the gleaming Porsches and the scent of motoroil, that Springer's profound understanding of what made thesemachines tick began to flourish. He quickly became an integral partof the Porsche community, revered for his technical acumen anduncompromising standards. Established in 1975, Alwin, alongside Arnold Wagner and DieterInzenhofer, formed ANDIAL, which became the cornerstone ofPorsche's racing triumphs in the United States. ANDIAL, an acronymderived from the names of its founders, has become synonymous withPorsche's motorsport activities in North America. ANDIAL'sexpertise in performance tuning and racing support was pivotal tonumerous victories, cementing its status as an integral part ofPorsche's racing arm in the U.S. It became known for deliveringengineering solutions that pushed the boundaries of Porsche'svehicles on the racetrack, embodying the spirit of innovation andexcellence that Alwin Springer carried throughout his career. Springer's prowess did not go unnoticed. His journey with Porschewas marked by an ascent through the echelons of the automotiveindustry, culminating in his appointment as the President ofPorsche Motorsport North America. In this pivotal role, Springerwas instrumental in steering the marque to a golden era of racingdominance. His leadership was characterized by an unyieldingdedication to excellence and an unwavering commitment to thePorsche ethos and he still continues to consult and mentor to thisday. Porsche's Type 356, introduced in 1948, is acknowledged as one ofthe world's greatest sports cars. Over a 15-year production run,the handsome and durable 356 evolved from a streamlined littlealuminum-bodied coupe powered by a VW-derived, 46hp 1100ccair-cooled flat-four to a powerful autobahn burner carrying acomplex, two-liter four-cam boxer Carrera engine of 130 horsepower. Its steady development brought not only coupes, but luxuriouscabriolets and more spartan Speedsters and Roadsters; almost 78,000examples were produced when production ceased in 1965. When the 356B, internally known as the T5, arrived in September1959, the new model brought with it major styling revisions and anengine now standardized at 1,600cc. Further development culminatedwith the T-6 in 1963 and the introduction of the ultimate model, the 356C. Among the details and numerous improvements was a new ZFsteering gear along with a compensating spring at the rear to calmthe swing axle rear suspension. The most important change was fromdrum brakes to the latest Ate disc brakes. Engines available, bothof 1.6 liters, were the 75bhp 'C' and 95bhp 'SC', the latterreplacing the Super 90. The 356 C is renowned for its lightweight construction, responsivehandling, and air-cooled engine character. Think of it as yourticket out of the doldrums of automotive predictability. It's astatement piece, proof that you appreciate automotive history asmuch as you do cutting-edge performance. A pure, unfiltered sportscar. And proof that Porsche knew how to build a proper driver'smachine long before they got obsessed with cup holders andtouchscreen menus. It represents the pinnacle of the brand's early innovation increating sports cars that deliver joy in pure form. This model, thelast of the 356 model line, was a culmination of relentlessrefinement. When it first hit the roads in the early 1960s, the 356set the benchmark for what a sports car could be-compact, agile, and incredibly engaging. It was the first car to bear the Porschename and set a template for the brand's engineering principles thatwould follow. The rear-engine layout, air-cooled reliability, anddistinctive silhouette began here, with the 356. This was the carthat put Porsche on the map and into the hearts of enthusiastseverywhere. So, if you're the type who craves a true connection to the machine,a car that rewards skill over brute force, then the 1964 Porsche356 C Coupe might just be your calling. It's a testament totimeless design, to engineering purity, and to a time when Porschesimply built brilliant sports cars, nothing more, nothing less. Bruce had the opportunity to take the 356 out for a road test andfound it to be nearly perfect. It required very little attentionbecause of the excellent mechanical and cosmetic condition of thecar. "A really great 356 example with equally great ownership history. We are selling this car for Alwin as he is getting a new Porsche inthe near future." - Bruce Canepa
