Beginning with the 1964 model year, the Skylark trim level hadenough sales to merit its own separate line. Along with thelower-priced Special from which it was derived, the model wouldmove to a new 115 in (2,921 mm) wheelbase intermediate-size chassisshared with the Oldsmobile F-85, Pontiac Tempest, and new ChevroletChevelle. Both Buicks had a length of 203.5 in (5,169 mm).Inspired by the sales success of the 1964 Pontiac Tempest, LeMans,and GTO,[citation needed] a Gran Sport option became available inmid-1965, offered as a coupe, hardtop or convertible. The GranSport featured Buick's 401-cubic-inch V8 with a Carter 4-barrelcarburetor that produced 325 hp (242 kW) at 4400 rpm, listed as 400cubic inches in sales literature to elude a General Motors limit of400 cubic inches in intermediate-sized cars. Unique Gran Sportbadging, a heavy-duty radiator, and dual exhaust were alsoadded. Price does not include applicable tax, title, license, processingand/or $199 documentation fees.
