SERIOUS INQUIRIES ONLY!1965 SHELBY GT350This 1965 Shelby MustangGT350 at Sports Car Company is chassis number SFM5S208 (one of 504street production examples built for the model year) and was firstinvoiced to Hi-Performance Motors of Los Angeles, California, onJuly 26, 1965. S208 was then shipped aboard the S.S. Santa Juanaalongside five other 1965 GT350's including R211 and R213, thatsold on BaT April 22, 2022, as the first 6 of 10 vehicles to Peru,where Luis Alvarado and Jorge Nicolini reportedly raced S208.According to the Shelby Registry and Peruvian Race Team, S208 wonits first race on May 1, 1966, at the Lima-Trujillo-Lima race, withmany more while it was there, according to the Shelby Registry andPeruvian Race team.The car returned to the United States in2002.Later, in January 2007, it was sold at Russo and Steel for$269,525.00 to the previous owner. (See photo gallery for the billof sale). This owner completed a full nut-and-bolt restoration at acost of approximately $175,000 from 2013 to 2015 (seen in thephotos). During this time, it was refinished in white with blue LeMans stripes, a 4-speed manual transmission, and additionalequipment, including a locking rear differential, 15-inch TorqThrust-style wheels, a dual side-exit exhaust system, an R-stylefront valance, polycarbonate rear and side windows, aircraft-stylelap belts, and a fiberglass rear package tray that holds a sparetire.This GT350 is now offered here at Sports Car Company withcopies of historical documents, manufacturer's literature,refurbishment photos, and a New Mexico title.The GT350 model wasdeveloped in the summer of 1964 following Ford's enlistment ofCarroll Shelby to create a variant of the Mustang to satisfy SCCAhomologation requirements. All 1965 GT350s were finished inWimbledon White with Guardsman Blue rocker-panel stripes.Thisexample was refinished under prior ownership with blue Le Mansstripes. Bodywork completed during the 2015 refurbishment includedsheet metal repairs and the installation of a revised front valanceand polycarbonate rear and side windows. Photos showing variousstages of refurbishment work are presented in the gallery below.Additional details include a mesh grille, hood scoop, quick-releasepins, sail-panel louvers, chrome rear bumper, and side-exit exhaustoutlets.Torq Thrust-style 15-inch wheels are mounted with BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires, and a matching spare wheel with Goodyearrubber is secured in the rear cargo area. Refurbishment work underprior ownership reportedly included refreshing the front disc, reardrum brakes, and suspension components.The cabin features low-backbucket seats trimmed in black vinyl and complemented bycolor-coordinated carpets. Features of the GT350 model includedaircraft-style lap belts and the omission of the rear seat in favorof a fiberglass shelf that housed the spare tire. Additionalappointments include a glove box, sun visors, and pony-brandedrubber floor mats.The wood-rimmed steering wheel fronts ahorizontal 120-mph speedometer and auxiliary gauges. A central dashpod houses a tachometer and an oil pressure gauge. The hi-pro 289ciV8 was reportedly rebuilt before being installed during therefurbishment in 2015. It has a Cobra high-rise intake manifold,and valve covers with breather tubes.Power is sent to the rearwheels through a four-speed manual transmission and a locking reardifferential.A copy of the Shelby American invoice toHi-Performance Motors of Los Angeles, California, is dated July 26,1965, and lists optional special alloy wheels at an additional costof $214 and a total price of $3,902.75. Also included in thegallery is a copy of an undated bill of lading that shows chassisSFM5S208 was shipped from Los Angeles, California, to Callao, Peru,along with another GT350 aboard the S.S. Santa Juana. A GT350Serial Number Verification document from Howard Pardee is datedJune 3, 2002, and notes that the Ford serial number provided by aprevious owner corresponds with the Shelby number. Import documentsare shown in the gallery below.When the restoration was completedin 2015, all of the original parts, including the bumper, brackets,and other parts removed to install the R Style valance, were alsorestored and put into boxes. This was a $15k restoration for theseparts, and they will come with the sale of this car.Documentationand refurbishment photos are in electronic format and stored on aflash drive and will also accompany the car.Year Model 1965 SoldMileage Exempt
