Description:

1969 Plymouth BarracudaFastback The Plymouth Barracuda was produced from 1964 through 1974. Manypeople don't realize the difference between a Barracuda and 'Cuda. There is a difference. The Formula S is an option package. The Cudais a different option package with typically more power thanaesthetics and occurred later in the life of the Barracuda. Thebirth of the Barracuda was conceived from a Plymouth Valiant. That's a far cry from the most iconic muscle car of all time. For consignment, a Barracuda fastback from Plymouth right out of1969. This fastback is late 60's cool and was meant to be a sleepercar if you will, some light street cred with a triple threat stripeon the sides, and Scorch Red on the body panels, and now a 340ciV8. Restored bumper to bumper by noted Mopar restorer Jim Stowellfrom Cloquet, Minnesota. Turn the key and go and show. ExteriorScorch Red has been applied over meticulously stripped and ironedout panels, particularly the doors which according to the consignorhad more dings than a Tijuana Taxi!. All steel is now minding itsgaps very nicely. The paint is in the deep end of the pool andchrome was triple sanded, steel wooled and then polished to bringit back. In front a dual opening grille houses the parking/turnsignal lights and the single round headlights. A nicely preservedbumper frames underneath the twin grilles. Wheel well moldingaccentuates the lower body nicely and 14-inch Mopar Rally wheels.Grocery getter sized 235/70R14's from 2008 are around the rallywheels. The highlight of this car is the long gently sloping rearwindow and rounded over triangular B pillar which transitions intothe rear deck gracefully and seamlessly. A slightly swept back anddown tail light trim surrounds and satin silver dressed tail lightdeck with another clean bumper below and dual exhaust tips on thebottom and we have the Barracuda presentation. InteriorPrior to the restoration someone had already put this interior to arestoration, so it was taken out for the bodywork and paintwork, then replaced. Red door panels which have red painted sills, andhorizontal embossed ribbed vinyl lowers create the perfectbackground for the black armrest and shiny actuator and crank. Thefront buckets are excellent, as well as the factory unmodifieddash. Racing between the buckets is the red carpeted hump and inits drive to the dash we find a Hurst shifter with white balltopper. The original radio is an and of course all correct. Asquared off 3 spoke brushed metal and square hole drilled steeringwheel has a leatherette wrapping around the rim in black. The rearbench does fold down for extra storage, and full access to thefastback area. All red carpeting is looking great and like new, with some slight fading below the hatchback glass. A perfect redvinyl headliner is above. DrivetrainA 340ci Mopar V8 circa 1968-1973 is in the engine bay and justgleaming and clean. Bathed in Hemi Orange, this mill sports a4-barrel carburetor along with an A833 4 speed manual transmissionand sends power to a 3.23 geared 8 3/4" rear axle. The engine baypresentation is nothing short of stunning with smoothed over innerfenders in deep red, and black cast ribbed Mopar Performance valvecovers. A chromed open circular air cleaner is on top. Dual factorystyle exhaust and Flowmaster mufflers are on for the exhale. Duringthe restoration the engine was given the once over and all checkedout fine. Gleam glitz and glamour and soft supple hoses. FishON!! UndercarriageStructurally sound and paint as nice and red and polished as thetopside, it's a show car. Up front we note an independent torsionbar front suspension and new drum brakes. In the back we see leafsprings and drum brakes. Get the mirror over here we need to showthis undercarriage off! Drive-AbilityThis car lit right up, and we were off to the test track. We puther through the paces, and it handled nicely, had solidacceleration, and was a comfortable cruiser. An A+ updated ridehere, so much so that I opted for a third lap around our fabledtest track. The brake lights were darkened, turn signals notsignaling, and the speedometer was not showing any reading. 1 of 17,788 fastbacks built for the 1969 model year, and to bepresented in such a nice condition this could be seriouslyconsidered a find. When one thinks of the Barracuda you could onlysee it as a fastback, and here we have it gracing the halls ofClassic Auto Mall. I'm hooked, how about you? Bring me in theboat!
