1970 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Convertible The word Cutlass is defined as a short curvy one-edged sword thatwas used by sailors. The Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme was the bestselling car in Olds history. With its clean lines and numerousmodel offerings, it is clear to see why. For consignment, a 1970 Oldsmobile Cutlass convertible in very nicecondition. Nice paint, good chrome, a rebuilt engine andtransmission, 4 wheel disc brakes and some go-fast goodies underthe hood make this rocket of an Olds ready to shoot for themoon. ExteriorStraight steel side panels, and trunk and hood with consistent gapsand covered in a Burgundy Mist respray, there are very few faultsto be noted here. Certainly not perfect, but amazingly preservedfor a 21 year old paint job. A white canvas top covers thepassenger compartment and is in good condition and has been fittedwith a glass rear window. Up front a split grille is flanked bydual headlights on either side, and a large chrome bumper below.All is nice and tight and in good alignment with no rust or fadingon chrome. The white canvas roof sweeps down to meet the trunk lidand bright shiny polishing trimmings surround the windshield aswell as the passenger compartment. Bringing up the curved to apoint rear, is a wrap-around bumper that has the taillightsembedded within it. On all 4 corners are Oldsmobile Super Stock IIchrome wheels with raised white letter BF Goodrich rubber. InteriorOpening one of the doors we are greeted by very nice textured whitevinyl with embossed panels and a small amount of thin nice chromeaccents, window cranks, and black carpeting below. Slipping insidewe get behind the original wheel atop a new tilt column whichfronts a very clean and original dash. This presents to us in blackand is loaded with plenty of wood applique for the gauge cluster.Below and to the right of the cluster is more applique for the heatand AC, and centrally located in the dash is an AM/FM radio withthe working original 8 track player below, meanwhile, in front ofthe passenger we see a glove box. All aligned perfectly. Frontingthis dash are crisp and clean white bucket seats which are tuck androll white vinyl with an applique topped black plastic console thatholds the ball topped shifter racing in between the pair. The backhas a matching rear bench that appears to never have been sat inand these all float in a sea of black carpeting. A shout out to thetrunk with gray carpeted mat and full size spare tire. Sit back andturn on the AM/FM radio and breathe in the 1970 design you are nowsurrounded by! DrivetrainThe original and rebuilt 350ci V8 sits between the fenders and hasbeen fitted with aluminum cylinder heads, an Edelbrock intakemanifold and an Edelbrock 4bbl carburetor. A rebuilt TH350 3-speedautomatic transmission behind, sits in a nicely patina and chromefinished engine bay. Handling the tire turning is a 10 bolt rearaxle weighing in with 3.08 gearing and having been fitted with aW-27 aluminum differential cover. UndercarriageNice and straight with some undercoating and a bit of surface ruston the axle and suspension parts, but the frame is strong andsturdy. Independent coil springs for the front and a 4 link withcoil springs is on back. Power disc brakes grace all 4 corners andheaders send spent fossils to the rear of the car through a pair ofFlowmaster mufflers. Drive-AbilityShe fired right up and ran like a champ on the test track. Smoothshifting and good solid quick stop braking is the norm for this caras is capable handling and wonderful acceleration. I took theliberty of having my tenure behind the wheel in top down guise andfranky the only thing that could have made this drive perfect wouldhave been if the AC was in operation, our consignor states that thesystem may need a charge. Otherwise a wonderful driver. An extremely nice example from the year 1970. Cared for and garagedand tended to as needed. A beautiful white color inside andeye-catching burgundy for the exterior, with all surfaces in verynice condition.
