Description:

1977 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am Some interesting facts about the 1977 Trans Am. Snowflake wheelsand quad headlights debuted in 1977. The black and gold limitededition of 1976 was brought back in 1977 as the Special Edition andwas the car made famous by "Smokey and the Bandit". Hurst hatches, the removable T-tops had either a black border or a polishedborder. The lower end 400 engine and Olds 403 engine were revealedon the hood scoop with "6.6 litre" written in the European spellingto give the car a European flair. Not sure that was accomplishedbut it is an interesting bit of trivia. Thx totran-zam.com For consignment, a 1977 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am equipped with amatching numbers engine, T-tops and of course, the iconic screamingchicken. The car was repainted in 2014 and presents in good drivercondition. Read on and get ready to order a CB radio! Note: This vehicle is sold with a Delaware rebuilt branding on thetitle ExteriorCameo White coats the outside and red Trans Am decals are on everyside of the car just in case onlookers don't recognize its form. The dual headlights flank the "Batmobile" nose and the grille hashoneycomb grates, a homage to early models that featured honeycombshapes in various places. The red, black, and gray eagle decal isin great condition and T/A 6.6 on the hood scoop indicates the L78400 underneath. The three piece wing tops the vertical rear wherewide tail lights in body matched bezels loom large over the bumpercover which is slightly askew on one side. 15-inch snowflake wheelsare in place but the flares at the wheel openings are missing.T-tops demonstrate the two different styles available in '77, theblack framed and the silver edged. The dual exhaust splitters arein place and we notice the right one hangs lower than the left, which is closer to the proper position. Overall, the body and paintare in acceptable condition, however we note areas of body fillerwork as well as various blemishes, cracking paint, andbubbling. InteriorFirethorn Red is a classic contrast with the white exterior andstarts on the door panels which are simple and have lower storage. The sport bucket vinyl seats are in good condition with somemisfitting of the rear shells. The back seats look nice as well andthe rear plastic wall panels were prone to fading, especially red,and there's some evidence of that here. Some wear is evident on thesteering wheel too, but it's intact with the horn button being adifferent shade of red. Faux machined metal backs the dash and ingeneral we would characterize it as driver quality with room forsome detailing and restoration, but complete and intact. A moremodern Sony AM/FM/CD radio sits in the center over the moldedplastic console, also in mismatched red, housing the automaticshifter. We also note a crack in the plastic under the storage lid.Low pile red carpet is protected by red Trans Am mats and the redheadliner is sagging a bit and would also benefit from attention. The trunk is generally clean and covered with a gray mat andincludes the Hurst Hatch cover. DrivetrainUnder the hood the numbers matching 400ci L78 rated at 180horsepower is in its factory home. It is fed by a 4-barrelcarburetor and tied to a correct TH350 3-speed automatictransmission sending power to the rear 10-bolt with 2.41 gears withPositraction. Power brakes slow the bird, with disc up front anddrums. Visually, the engine bay is clean with typical surface rustand we note that the A/C components have been removed. UndercarriageLots of surface rust underneath including suspension components, exhaust, parts of the belly pans, and parts of the frame. We note acrack in the replaced floorboards which have been crudely installedas well as some light invasive rust in the left rear flooring. Thedual exhaust flows back to a pair of FlowMaster mufflers, routeover the rear axle, and then exit in the area of the rear fenderwhere the chrome splitters have been welded onto the tailpipe.Independent coil spring suspension is up front and leaf spring inthe back. We're happy to report there's no leaking oil from the oilpan. Drive-AbilityWe prime the 4-barrel and turn the key, and the shaker hood comesto life as we roll onto the test tarmac. The engine runs just fineand as always, the F-body has great handling. Late 70's Trans Amsnever lived up to their looks in performance, but this one movesout just fine, albeit with some creaking underneath. Brakes hook upwell and the only thing that doesn't work is the heater blower. With mid level condition Trans Ams becoming scarce, this onepresents a number of options to buyers. Leave as is and drive theheck out of it or throw it on a rotisserie and bring it back to itsformer glory. Either way, you have a winning car that's onlygetting more valuable and more desirable each year.
