Although the FJ55 was classified as a commercial-use vehicle in Japan, it was positioned as a passenger vehicle in overseas markets where it was principally sold. The 4-door wagon was based on the 40 Series gasoline drivetrain (3-speed, F engine, 125 hp) and replaced the 4-door FJ45LV with a longer wheelbase.
