Finished in Saffron Yellow, this is one of the most solid andoriginal Scouts we have seen - paint is 90 percent original over anaccident-free body with no known rust. This truck has spent itswhole life in Texas and it shows. Never undercoated so there are nosurprises underneath. While there is minor patina throughout(especially on the original graphics, which have slightly crackedwith age), it's far better preserved than most "survivor" trucks.Recent upgrades include a custom front bumper with a 9,500 lbwinch, a 2.5-inch suspension lift, a 1-inch body lift, and 17-inchMethod Race Wheels wearing BF Goodrich 285/70R17 mud terrains(equivalent to 32.7x11.2 inches). The bumper, lift, wheels andtires give this Scout an updated look with an improved stance,while still retaining a great vintage feel overall. The interior is completely original with Sierra Tan pillow-top seatupholstery - there is minor wear on the driver's seat consistentwith age and mileage, but the front carpet, rear vinyl floor liner,door panels, headliner, sun visors, steering wheel and headlinerare all in very good original condition. Even the dash pad iscrack-free (and the steel portion of the dash is still finished inoriginal paint). All gauges are clear and working. Older AM/FMcassette stereo works but tape function has not been tested. A/C isstill running R12 and blows cool, but not ice cold. Under the hood is International Harvester's 345 cubic inch V8 matedto a TorqueFlite 727 automatic transmission (with four wheel drive,of course). Mileage, at just under 94,000, is believed original. Inaddition to the recent suspension work and new tires, other servicewithin the last 20,000 miles includes a new power steering pump,rebuilt steering gearbox, rebuilt rear axle, new fuel pump, newbrake master cylinder and brake hoses, and a new Edelbrockfour-barrel carburetor. Window regulators have been replaced andmost of the door seals, window seals and hard top seals have beenreplaced. Original paint and original decals remain in place in theengine compartment. This Scout runs smoothly and drives well. The general rule of thumb is that the larger the lift and tires,the worst a truck drives - but thanks to sub-33-inch tires and afairly mild lift combined with a steering box brace, new tie rodends and Borgeson steering u-joints, the road manners of this Scoutare particularly good. It also has 2.72:1 gears making it moresuitable for highway use than most. 1980 was the final year ofproduction for a Scout, and it got the heaviest duty axles and alsoan improved transfer case with a shorter-gear-ratio low range. They're only original once and this Scout is one of the bestpreserved and most unmolested examples we've seen. Thanks todecades of attentive maintenance it's also mechanically well-sortedand ready for its next owner to enjoy. Included with the sale arethe original owner's books, line setting ticket and service recordsdating to 1994.
