Pontiac pitched the Fiero as an economy car to GM brass, but by now we all know that was a clever ruse to build a mid-engined sports car with a fully independent suspension, manual gearbox, and, eventually, a fairly potent V6 powerplant. This 1988 Fiero GT is the 1 to own if you\'re a fan, with the latest and greatest updates, most powerful engine, and fantastic styling that suggests a far more expensive car. There aren\'t many better colors on a mid-engine sports car than bright red, and the Fiero GT wears it quite well. Like their F-body cousins, the Fieros were often pre-owned hard and thrown away, so finding a clean, unmolested example like this is quite a treat. The GT offered a more aggressive front fascia, flying buttress sail panels, side skirts, and an aggressive rear wing that totally transform the looks of the original notchback style. The original plastic body panels were designed to be easy to service and durable, and this 1 shows no cracks or previous accident damage. Fit and finish are just the way the factory did it, which is actually pretty darned good, and the car still draws appreciative looks as it runs down the road. Honestly, when was the last time you saw a stock 1 in such terrific shape? If you\'ve driven any GM product in the late-80s, you\'ll feel instantly at home in the Fiero. Comfort is excellent, and despite the mid-engined design, visibility is quite good. Grippy cloth buckets show very minor wear but no split seams or tears in the fabric, and thanks to a set of matching logo floormats, the carpets are very good, too. A leather-wrapped wheel frames a complete set of instruments, with a pair of aux gauges mounted on top of the center stack. A wood dash kit gives it a warm, inviting appearance that\'s better than the acres of plastic found in most Pontiacs of the period, and just about everything was standard on the GT, from AIR CONDITIONER to electric windows. An Alpine Am fm radio with USB capabilities has been fitted in the original radio\'s location. This 1 also carries the relatively rare factory T-tops, making it the 1 to own for future appreciation and present-day enjoyment. There is even a reasonably-sized trunk area just behind the mid-mounted engine that includes the original jack. GM\'s rugged 2.8 liter V6 was the GT\'s standard powerplant and delivers entertaining performance in the relatively lightweight Fiero. It certainly looks the part of a performance engine with a bright red intake manifold and matching valve covers, and it\'s the ideal specimen because it hasn\'t been modified. Routine maintenance items ensure that it\'s in good operating condition, and the three gear automatic gearbox changes gears with authority. With an all-independent suspension and agile steering, it\'s a blast to drive, and the big aluminum wheels carry staggered 205/60/15 front and 215/60/15 rear tires that deliver exceptional handling.
