1978 Silver Anniversary T-Top Corvette THE VETTE NET is a Nationwide and International Corvette Brokerage Network, proud Lifetime Business Member #991 of the National Corvette Museum. We are pleased to offer a special Corvette, 25th Anniversary Coupe. The Corvette was 25 yrs old in 1978 and the celebration was on. All 1978s featured a commemorative badge on the front nose. A special 2 tone paint scheme consisting of dark silver on the lower body and light silver above separated by a dark silver stripe was offered. The production quantity was not limited and 15,283 were sold. 1978 was a year of significant changes to the C3 Corvette. A new fastback design which made for a smoother silhouette and answered criticisms of limited luggage space; owners now had storage similar to the mid-years Corvette coupes. Also like the mid-years coupes, access to the area was through the seats and inconvenient. A hatchback opening would be available in 1982. A retractable cover provided sun protection and alarm. 1 drawback to the new design was that the interior would heat up on sunny days, placing increased demands on the a/c. A new temporary space saving spare tire enabled the installation of a new 24 gallon (previously seventeen gallon) fuel tank, increasing the driving range between fill-ups, a previous Corvette complaint. This particular model was in 1 family since new. Actual owner got it from his brother when car had 4K miles in 1982 and had it ever since. It came equipped with the Silver Anniversary package (paint, interior, badges), also with a popular option at the time, the CB radio, a whopping $638 then. Car is very original, having accumulated only 29K miles. Engine starts right up, transmission shifts properly, overall, a very tight and sturdy car. As with age, some little things need attention: AC to be converted and recharged, valve cover seals, glove compartment lock, temperature selector switch on the dash. Paint is original and shows signs of fading. Being lacquer, it is likely that can be rejuvenated. All in all, this is your chance to own a desirable collectable with great pedigree, very low miles, also with a potential for appreciation in the years to come.
