Registration Number: German Registered Chassis Number: 190842-10-002897 In 1952, the original W194 300SL race car managed 2nd and 4th places at its 1st outing, the Mille Miglia and scored overall wins at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, in the sportscar race of the Eifelrennen... The 3.0 litre straight 6 engine pre-owned dry sump lubrication and unlike the carburetted race car, Bosch mechanical direct fuel injection, the latter a world 1st for a production car. It was 1 of the most potent engines of its day, providing a top speed between 130 and 165mph depending on gearing. The styling hardly needs comment, with the exterior design causing as much of a sensation today as it did when new. Simultaneously stylish, refined and purposeful, the low sleek lines are complemented by distinguishing features such as the big tri-star grille emblem, wheel arch 'eyebrows' and 'egg crate' front wing louvres, while the stylish and comfortable interior with body coloured dash and Ivory steering wheel, are the antithesis to modern dour Mercedes interiors. This premier 300 SL represents 1 of the last evolutions of productions run and was delivered new in September 1961 in the original colour DB534 Feuerweh-Rot with 953 black leather. The car is a rare example of the legendary disc brake models as introduced in May 1961 and the car was also supplied new with an extremely rare factory hard top. The car remained with its 1st owner until 1967, when it past to its 2nd and current owner, a well established German family from Hanover. The car has remained in this ownership over the last 5 decades, which itself is an amazing achievement and this rare disc brake roadster is being offered publicly for the 1st time since the now distant 1960s. Still finished in the original delivery colours of fire-engine red and black leather seats, the car is described by the well established owner as being excellent in all respects, including engine, body, chassis, interior, transmission and paint.
