According to the seller, he purchased this 1972 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu Sedan (registered in error as a 1971) from the grandson of the original owner, who reportedly didn’t have time for the project. Since acquiring the car, the seller has had it painted, replaced the brakes, and replaced the original engine with a 383 stroker small-block V8. It is said to run and drive well, but still has a few imperfections and needs. “It’s not a show car, but it turns heads and has a lot of potential,” says the seller. POWERTRAIN This vintage A-body is powered by a BluePrint Engines 383-cu.in. OHV V8 crate engine, which features aluminum heads, an aluminum intake manifold, and a Holley four-barrel carburetor, all coming together to make a reported 440 horsepower. The seller says the engine was installed a year ago and has about 500 miles on it. It is also said to start and run well, with no smoke or leaks, and is paired with a Turbo Hydra-Matic 350 three-speed automatic transmission that reportedly shifts well. There are also no reported leaks or weeps from the transmission. EXTERIOR The seller says the exterior was repainted tan two year ago and the finish is in “fair” condition, with a few imperfections in the paint around the door jambs. There are also a few additional small blemishes seen in the photos, along with some orange peel in the finish. The exterior trim appears in good shape, but shows its age in areas, particularly the bumpers. The glass is reportedly in good shape, with no noted cracks or chips in the windshield, but the seals around the windows are old and the door seals are reportedly gone. All the exterior lights are said to work normally. The passenger’s-side outside mirror is missing. INTERIOR Inside, the black vinyl cabin appears in fair condition. The seats are black, while the door panels are green. The upholstery on the front and rear bench seats shows wear and a few rips and tears, while the front seat has an aftermarket cover on the bottom cushion. The carpet also appears older and shows wear, while the seller notes the headliner needs to be replaced. There’s also at least one significant crack in the dash pad and there are cracks in the steering wheel. The fuel gauge is stuck at full, but the rest of the instruments are said to work normally. Additionally, the heater does not work and neither does the original AM radio. CHASSIS According to the seller, the chassis, suspension, and braking components are in good condition, with the brakes redone during his ownership. That work included replacement drums and a replacement booster. The last service on the suspension and braking systems are unknown, but the car is said to drive well on Nexen tires mounted on 14-inch steel wheels with center caps and trim rings. The tires are said to be four years old, but their DOT date codes are not visible in the photos. An inspection is recommended prior to highway driving. The wheels are said to be in good condition, with no reported curb rash or dings in the trim rings. DOCUMENTATION As Georgia does not issue titles for vehicles of this age, the seller states that this vehicle will be sold on the proper document in his name for transfer of ownership. Additional documentation for this 1972 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu Sedan includes a number of receipts. It may need a few cosmetic details, but the mechanicals of this A-body are said to be in good shape—and they’re led by a 383 “stroker” engine that reportedly delivers more than 400 horsepower.
