64,853 Kilometers The Mazda Cosmo, aptly named due to theinternational fascination with the Space Race at the time, wasproduced from 1967 to 1996. The original Series I model was offeredonly as a two-door coupe with a rotary engine known as the MazdaWankel engine. This engine showcased Mazdas focus on futuredevelopments and technology, and the concept was carried on throughall future generations. An inline 4-cylinder option was offeredwith the second generation Series CD as well, but the rotary engineremained the most popular choice in Japan due to lower road taxobligations. Also with the second generation, a fastback body stylewas offered and the third generation Series HB brought with it a4-door sedan option, as well as the end of the piston engine. TheCosmos fourth and final generation, the Series JC, introduced moreluxurious, state of the art options such as a Car CommunicationSystem, color touch screen, mobile phone, GPS, and NTSC TV.Additionally, similar to other Japanese luxury brands at the time,the fourth generation Cosmo was offered only as a 4-speed automatictransmission with manual shift mode. However, sales began todwindle, most likely due to the fact that the Cosmo no longercomplied with Japanese government regulations on dimension, andproduction ceased in 1995. Third party pre-purchase inspections arewelcomed and encouraged. All vehicles sold by Duncan come with aclean U.S. title.
