By the late 1970s, Pontiac’s high-performance F-bodies were generating brisk sales numbers. This 1978 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am reportedly has less than 15,000 miles on it, and it was factory-built with the extra cost “T/A 6.6” engine, T-tops, and no air conditioning, which would have made it a desirable performer when new. FEATURES The seller believes the car’s mileage to be accurate.Its window sticker and the “Z” in the VIN denote the optional 220-horsepower 6.6-liter OHV V8.The four-barrel, extra-cost Pontiac engine was equipped with upgraded parts at the factory.He says that the V8 does not smoke, and there are no leaks.The seller believes the engine to be original to the car.However, it has not been confirmed via comparing the partial VIN on the block to the body VIN.The standard four-speed manual transmission employs a Hurst shifter.A Safe-T-Track (limited-slip) rear axle was also standard.He says the car was repainted but does not know when this was done.The seller notes that the Martinique Blue paint is “intact.”This T/A was ordered with the extra-cost hood bird decal, as well as tinted windows.The standard black vinyl seats, side panels, Formula wheel, dash pad, and console present well.Rally gauges, including a tachometer and clock, were standard.An aftermarket stereo and equalizer were installed by a previous owner.The power front disc/rear drum brakes work like they should, per the owner.Four steel 15-inch Rally II wheels are fitted with vintage Uniroyal GR70-15 radial tires. NEEDS Wear is shown in the black center of the hood bird decal.“Around the rear wheelwells it looks like an overpaint,” the seller notes.“There is a little imperfection on the passenger's-side door, on the bottom.”Paint chips and surface rust are on the Rally II wheels.The red paint on the wheel center caps has faded.The exhaust splitters appear to have been repainted silver.Chips are found in the black taillight bezel paint.The trim ring is missing on the speedometer.The engine-turned instrument panel trim has yellowed. OVERVIEW This T/A purportedly has very low mileage.It was ordered with the more powerful, 220-horsepower, four-barrel 6.6-liter V8.Factory-installed T-tops were specified and are shown on the window sticker.A/C was not ordered, which saves 110-lbs and eases under hood maintenance significantly. DOCUMENTATION As Vermont does not issue titles for vehicles of this age, the seller states that this vehicle will be sold on the proper document in the owner’s name for transfer of ownership.
