Perhaps inspired by the Shelby Daytona coupe, the 1996 Dodge Viper GTS Coupe was more than 90 percent changed from its stablemate, the RT/10 roadster. The coupe also featured a boost in the signature 8.0-liter V10 engine’s output, from 415 to 450 horsepower. This 1996 Dodge Viper GTS Coupe, from the model’s inaugural year, has covered less than 5,700 miles from new and is said by the seller to be “very clean and very original,” with replacement tires and a replacement battery the only noted updates from its as-delivered condition. POWERTRAIN Under this Viper’s signature long, forward-tipping hood is Chrysler’s distinctive 8.0-liter OHV V10 engine, which was largely based on the company’s LA-series 360 engine, but with two additional cylinders. In the GTS, it was rated at 450 horsepower and 490 lb-ft of torque and was paired with a six-speed manual gearbox. According to the seller, the engine is original and unmodified. The big V10 is said to start and idle normally, with no smoke and no leaks. There are no leaks from the transmission, either, which is said to shift smoothly. EXTERIOR Per the seller, this low-mileage Viper’s blue metallic exterior finish—straightforwardly dubbed Viper GTS Blue—is in “excellent” condition, with no blemishes or swirl marks. The same goes for the Stone White stripes. The photos show a few small bubbles in the paint on the bottom of the rocker panels. The glass and seals are also said to be in “excellent” condition, with no reported cracks or chips in the windshield. All the exterior lights are said to work normally. INTERIOR This Viper’s black leather cockpit appears appear in very good original condition and commensurate with the car’s very low mileage. There’s only the slightest wear showing in the driver’s seat, while the carpet, floormats, and headliner also appear in great shape, along with the door panels, dash pad, steering wheel, and center console. All the trim elements are said to be intact, and all the car’s interior features are said to work normally, from the gauges, heater, and air conditioning system to the power windows, locks, and Alpine-supplied audio system. CHASSIS According to the seller, the chassis, suspension, and brake components are in factory-stock condition, with no known needs or issues, and no known previous service. With less than 5,700 miles, there is also little road time on the car, but the steamroller Michelin Pilot Sport tires were replaced in February 2023, according to the seller, and they show 2022 DOT date codes. The polished-aluminum 17-inch wheels are also in great-appearing condition, with no reported blemishes or curb rash. DOCUMENTATION The seller states that this vehicle will be sold on a clean South Carolina title in his name. Additional documentation for this 1996 Dodge Viper GTS Coupe includes a clean Carfax report. It must have been difficult for the Viper’s owners to drive it so sparingly over the past 28 years, but with only 5,666 original miles today, the car presents virtually as new.
