2004 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT 4x4 Short Bed Pickup In 2004, one of the options if you wanted a Dodge Ram 1500 was theRumble Bee, a tribute to the Dodge Super Bee in truck form andadorned with a tailgate stripe, bulging hood with vent, and aslightly tweaked 5.7 liter Hemi. Around 4,000 were built between2004 and 2005. Meanwhile, Dodge pickup production and sales wereclose to the 400,000 mark, making the more pedestrian 1500 SLT muchmore common. For consignment, a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT 4x4 with a 5.7 literHemi that was installed about 13,000 miles ago on the truck with atitle verified 93,188 actual miles. It's got the bulging hood scoopand tail stripe of the Rumble Bee along with some nice wheels. Ifyou're looking to tow your show car or race car, this seems likethe perfect antidote. ExteriorTwo stage black paint shines brightly on this big truck and coversthe crossbars of the enormous grille. A chrome bumper is a remnantof the truck's SLT model status, and the functional hood is flankedby wide fenders for an aggressive look. A step up bar allows easieraccess to the high cab which is backed by a short bed covered witha tonneau that's in good shape behind the rear window with slidingcenter. The decal stripe with Rumble Bee cartoon logo is wellplaced and adds a sportiness to the truck and the unmarked blacktailgate and black painted rear bumper present a handsome designuninterrupted by emblems or decals and includes a tow hitch andelectrical port. Inside the bed, a rubber mat covers the horizontalsurface and shows use, and the bed has scratches as well. 17-inch 5spoke wheels also look aggressive and carry 70 series tires. Theonly imperfection we could find was a sizable dent in thetailgate. InteriorMolded plastic taupe and gray door panels contain a number ofstorage bins and plastic hardware and a speaker. Cloth covers thesplit bench with a large armrest/storage bin that doubles as athird seat back when retracted. The driver's seat has multiplepower and manual adjustments, and all surfaces are in greatcondition. Behind the seats, a plastic floor liner provides amplespace for your toolbox, utility belt, or even a few grocery bags.There are also numerous hooks on the back wall for similar usage.Back up front we have an appropriately robust steering wheel withthumb controls in front of a white faced gauge package on a blackbackground while the center stack is an integrated arrangement ofA/C controls and an AM/FM radio with cassette and CD, a Impulsebrake controller, and a range selector knob. Textured taupe plasticmakes up the rest of the dash. The low pile carpet and softheadliner are in excellent condition with two floor mats on eachside covering the factory carpet. DrivetrainUnder the hood we find the clean driver quality 5.7 liter Hemi V8which was installed 13,000 miles ago and includes an Airaid coldair kit and new ECU. At that time of installation, the 5-45RFE5-speed automatic transmission was serviced. 3.92 gears are frontin the front and rear differentials and power disc brakes areemployed to halt the hemi. UndercarriageFor a truck with 93,000 miles we find the underside remarkablyclean. There's some surface rust on the exhaust but that' prettytypical and that exhaust is a single pipe that transects a stockstyle muffler before exiting out back. Torsion bar suspension isused up front and leaf springs are employed in the back. Drive-AbilityWe hoist ourselves up into the cabin for a king of the roadfeeling, high and mighty indeed! The Hemi sparks into action viaits fuel injection and bubbles out the single exhaust pipe. We rollonto the test loop and find very good acceleration, great braking,and from these altitudes, awesome visibility. The heater blower isnoisy and vibrates at high speed but every other function in thetruck works as it should. While Classic Auto Mall represents thatthese functions were working at the time of our test drive, wecannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time ofyour purchase. This is like a Rumble Bee from the dark side, dressed in solidblack and wearing the cosmetics of that limited edition truck.
