With its basic architecture and styling derived from the C/K pickups, the K5 Blazer echoed their design and when rectangular headlights were incorporated on the C/K lineup in 1980, the Blazer followed suit. It was the only year rectangular headlights were featured in the original 1973-80 “Square Body” grille design. That single-year trait makes this 1979 Chevrolet K5 Blazer 4x4 really stand out, as it wears the grille and headlamps of a 1980 model. It’s a “rust-free” truck, says the seller, and it’s powered by a small-block V8 that has a number of performance upgrades and is backed by a four-speed manual transmission with a granny gear. Overall, the Blazer is said to run and drive well. POWERTRAIN Under the hood, according to the seller, is the original 350-cu.in. OHV V8, which has been upgraded with an Offenhauser aluminum intake manifold, a Quadrajet carburetor, Accel ignition system, MSD plug wires, headers, and a custom exhaust system. It is said to start, idle, and run well, with no reported smoke and no leaks. A four-speed manual transmission backs the engine, and the seller notes it shifts “superbly.” There are no reported leaks from it, and the seller reports no issues with the four-wheel-drive system’s transfer case. According to the seller, the K5 is equipped with a brand new Mr. Gasket electric fuel pump. EXTERIOR According to the seller, the body on this Blazer is “rust-free” and it appears very straight. Overspray seen on the windshield molding is an indicator the truck has been repainted and the seller says the yellow finish (with a tan roof) is in very good overall condition, with a few minor blemishes. They include some paint chip touch-ups. The body-side trim appears in good condition, too, but shows its age and has a few small apparent dings. The Blazer’s glass and seals are in good condition, with no reported cracks or chips in the windshield. All the exterior lights are said to be in working order. INTERIOR Inside, this Blazer’s beige cloth interior appears complete and in good condition, but shows wear in a few areas, including the center console, steering wheel, door panels, and rear side trim. The horn pad on the steering wheel appears to be from a different model and does not fit the original opening in the wheel’s center. The cloth-trimmed seats also appear to be from a later truck and appear in very good condition, with no reported holes or rips in the fabric. The seller says the gauges, heater, and the vintage aftermarket Kraco cassette deck with integrated equalizer are all in working order. CHASSIS According to the seller, the chassis, suspension, and braking elements are in good condition, with no known needs or issues, but also no known recent service. The truck reportedly drives and stops “with no problems,” rolling on Summit Radial Trail Climber tires mounted on aftermarket steel wheels. All are said to be in good condition, but the age of the tires is unknown and their DOT date codes are not visible in the photos. An inspection is recommended prior to highway driving. There is no reported damage on the wheels. DOCUMENTATION The seller states that this vehicle will be sold on a clean Colorado title in his name. It’s a solid-appearing and claimed rust-free 1979 Chevrolet K5 Blazer 4x4 with a performance-upgraded 350 engine and a manual gearbox. The exterior and interior show cosmetic wear, but the seller says the truck is in good-running condition, leaving the next owner to drive it as is or make those cosmetic updates to elevate its appearance.
