Summary:
Used 1987 Chevrolet El Camino
Location:
Poulsbo, WA
Description:
The 1987 Chevrolet El Camino marked the end of the brand’s unique car-based light-duty pickup, which was launched in 1959. This 1987 Chevrolet El Camino Conquista wears its original paint, according to the seller, and is powered by a small-block crate engine. It also has rear air-adjustable shocks and a modern radio, but the rest of the vehicle is said to be in stock condition. “It’s always garaged and never driven in the rain,” says the seller, who adds it’s “rust-free” and was “completely gone through mechanically” by the previous owner. The truck’s Carfax indicates a theft and recovery in 2003, but no damage was reported in the incident. In fact, the Carfax is otherwise clean, with no reported accidents. POWERTRAIN According to the seller, the original 305 V8 engine has been replaced with a larger-displacement and more-powerful 350-cu.in. OHV V8 crate engine that’s topped with an Edelbrock aluminum intake manifold and Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor. It reportedly starts, idles, and runs well, with no smoke, and it’s paired with a four-speed automatic transmission that is said to shift well. There are approximately 30,000 miles on the engine, says the seller, who adds the powertrain will leave a drop of oil on the garage floor after sitting for an extended period. EXTERIOR Conquista models were distinguished with two-tone paintwork, such as the Medium Brown Metallic and Light Brown Metallic colors on this example. The seller says the paintwork is original and in good overall condition, with a few minor door dings and scratches. The body itself is said to be “rust-free,” and the bed has a spray-in bed liner. The bumpers and additional trim appear in good shape and the seller says the glass is in good shape, too, including a recently replaced windshield. All the seals are in good condition and all the exterior lights work normally, the seller notes. INTERIOR Inside, the saddle vinyl cabin appears in very good condition, with little apparent wear in the seat covers or carpet. The seller says the seat covers are in “excellent” condition, while the headliner is also reported to be in very good shape. “Everything is good,” says the seller, who notes no issues with the gauges, locks, or windows. There are no apparent cracks in the dash pad and the steering wheel shows only minor apparent wear. There is a small emblem missing from one of the door handles. The heater is functional and so is the modern Kenwood replacement radio. CHASSIS The chassis and suspension components have reportedly been maintained to stock specifications, apart from the addition of rear air shocks, and have no known issues or needs. Recent service included the installation of those shocks, as well as replacement of the ball joints. The truck is said to drive well, with no reported vibrations on the highway. “It drives straight,” says the seller. The rolling stock include BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires mounted on the stock steel wheels with center caps and trim rings. There are no reported blemishes or curb rash on the trim rings. The age of the tires is unknown and their DOT date codes are not visible in the photos. An inspection is recommended prior to highway driving. DOCUMENTATION The seller states that this vehicle will be sold on a clean Washington title in his name. Additional documentation for this 1987 Chevrolet El Camino Conquista includes the Carfax vehicle history report. It was the end of the line for the El Camino in ’87 and it went out in style. This example appears very clean and pulls harder than when it did when new, thanks to its 350-cubic-inch heart transplant.
