After searching high and low for a Vapor Silver convertible with a black top and black interior, the seller of this 2008 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Convertible found it at Carmax store about 10 years ago. It had only one previous owner and today, the odometer shows only 16,825 miles. “It has had no accidents and is not driven in bad weather,” says the seller, who also notes there have been no modifications made to the car. “It’s in great condition,” he says. The car is one of only 245 GT500 Convertibles built for the year in Vapor Silver and has a clean Carfax vehicle history report. The report does document a series of errors made by the Mississippi Motor Vehicle Department when documenting the car’s mileage, which resulted in the state issuing three separate titles to the seller. POWERTRAIN This GT500 is powered by its original 5.4-liter supercharged DOHC V8, rated by Ford at 500 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque. It’s backed by a Tremec TR6060 six-speed manual transmission that channels the engine’s torque to a limited-slip rear differential fitted with 3.31 gears. All the powertrain components are said to be original, unmodified, and to perform normally, while the transmission is said to shift smoothly. “The clutch feels firm and works great,” says the seller. There are no reported powertrain leaks or weeping. EXTERIOR According to the seller, the rare Vapor Silver Metallic paintwork on this GT500 is original and in “excellent” condition, with the only noted blemish a small paint chip on the left-front fender. The convertible top is said to be in “great shape” and reportedly operates “perfectly,” with no leaks. The glass and seals are also said to be in “excellent” condition, with no damage, cracks, or leaks, while all the exterior lights “function perfectly,” says the seller. There is no apparent hazing or fogging in the headlamp covers. The car was ordered with the optional HID headlamps, as well as a Shelby-logo full car cover. INTERIOR The black leather-trimmed cockpit of this Shelby is reportedly “very clean” and in “great” overall condition, including seats that show little apparent wear and no reported holes or tears. Likewise, the seller reports the condition of the carpet and Shelby floormats are “great.” All the door panels, console, and dashboard also appear in very good condition, as does the leather-wrapped steering wheel, but the leather-trimmed inserts on the door panels show some “bumps” and waviness that are apparently due to a common issue related to failing adhesive on the backside of the inserts. All the gauges are reportedly functional. The same goes for the heater, air conditioning, power locks, power windows, and the original Shaker 500 CD audio system, which includes a six-disc changer. Options ordered with the car include a DVD-based navigation system and ambient lighting. CHASSIS The GT500’s equipment roster, compared to other Mustang models, included unique spring rates and stabilizer bars, specific dampers, and larger brakes—including Brembo front brakes with four-piston calipers. According to the seller, the chassis, suspension, and braking elements are in stock condition, with no known issues or needs. The car rolls on the original Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar tires (P285/40ZR18 rear and 255/45ZR18 front), mounted on the original 18-inch aluminum wheels. All are said to be in “excellent” condition, with no damage or curb rash on the wheels, but due to their age the tires should be replaced prior to highway driving. DOCUMENTATION The seller states that this vehicle will be sold on a clean Mississippi title in his name. Additional documentation for this low-mileage 2008 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Convertible includes the window sticker, a Carfax report, and purchase paperwork from Carmax. The GT500 was a return to form, inspired by the spirit of the original Shelby Mustangs, but with modern technologies that elevated its performance capabilities far beyond the originals. With only 16,825 miles on the odometer, this Vapor Silver Metallic convertible is said to be stock, well-kept, and in great overall condition.
