Refurbished 1962 Jaguar E-type Series 1 Convertible
Financing:
Summary:
Used 1962 Jaguar E-Type 38,669 miles
Location:
Plainville, CT
Description:
“A numbers-matching, factory original color, with the original mileage and a unique history” is how the selling dealer listing this left-hand-drive 1962 Jaguar E-type Series 1 Open Two-Seater (Jaguar’s terminology for convertible) describes this highly presentable example. The selling dealer identifies that this car, one of approximately 2,000 Series 1 Roadsters sold in 1962, was originally exported to Rhodesia and later imported to the U.S. The car was reportedly the subject of a cosmetic refurbishment in the 1990s that included a repaint in the original Carmen Red over a re-trimmed black interior. Additional mechanical refurbishment was undertaken in 2019, with receipts that will be provided with a sale. This E-type appears to present to the highest level of preparation and show standards and is offered with “no known needs.” POWERTRAIN The Jaguar XK 3.8-liter DOHC inline-six, with 9.0:1 compression and three 2-inch SU HD8 carburetors, was rated at 265 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 260 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 when new, with a Moss four-speed manual transmission featuring synchronizers on the top three forward gears. The dealer states that the powertrain is original to the car and accompanying photos and a Jaguar Heritage certificate document this. The powertrain has approximately 4,000 miles since a mechanical refurbishment was completed in 2019. At that time, the engine was disassembled and resealed; the transmission was resealed; and an electronic ignition, aluminum radiator, new clutch and clutch hydraulic cylinders were installed. The E-type is said to “fire right up with no smoke,” according to the dealer, “and idles fine.” The Moss gearbox “shifts as intended.” Only “the normal seepage from an E-type” is reported. EXTERIOR The dealer identifies that the original color of Carmine Red was refinished in the 1990s and continues to present very strongly as seen in the photos. He describes the finish as “very nice; still with all its luster, no swirls, and no dents.” All brightwork appearsin the photos to be complete and highly polished. All glass is described as “very good to excellent.” A black fabric folding top is said to be “newer, and in proper working order,” and all seals are pointed out as “in great condition, with no known leaks.” All lights are functional. INTERIOR The cosmetic refurbishment of the 1990s also included re-trimming of the black leather interior, per the dealer. The early Series 1 shell seats display “minimal typical wear,” in the dealer’s words. All adjustments are said to work with no restrictions. The carpets are described as in “extremely nice condition.” Interior trim, including the etched aluminum panels unique to the earliest E-types, is “complete and period correct.” All gauges are identified to work as intended. The odometer displays 38,669 miles, which the dealer states is original to the car. This E-type was ordered new without a radio or air conditioning. The heater is said to work properly. CHASSIS With the mechanical work completed in 2019, “the steering rack has been rebuilt, the wheel is straight with no play, and the car drives straight,” according to the dealer. No issues are reported with the bushings and shocks. The rear suspension mounting points and upper and lower ball joints have been replaced, per the seller, and “the brakes can lock up the tires if need be.” The polished 72-spoke wire wheels with knock-off hubs appear in the photos to be pristine, with no reported or observed blemishes. Vredstein 185/R15 Sprint Classic radial tires are mounted all around and were new in 2023, writes the seller. DOT date codes confirm that the tires were manufactured in June 2022. DOCUMENTATION As Connecticut does not issue titles for vehicles of this age, the selling dealer states that this vehicle will be sold on the proper document for transfer of ownership. The dealer notes that as a late 1962 vehicle, the E-type is registered as a 1963. The originality and level of presentation of this 1962 Jaguar E-type Series 1 Open Two-Seater command attention wherever it is driven or shown, and it would be admired in any collection. Service records for the 2019 mechanical work will be provided to the purchaser, as will the original radiator. Other notable equipment includes triple windshield wipers, a heater, a black fabric soft top, power-assisted disc brakes, a limited-slip differential, and dual exhaust outlets. 1962-JAGUAR-ETYPE-RED-DOMINIC - YouTubeFrank Tbd1 subscriber1962-JAGUAR-ETYPE-RED-DOMINICFrank TbdSearchWatch laterShareCopy linkInfoShoppingTap to unmuteIf playback doesn't begin shortly, try restarting your device.More videosMore videosYou're signed outVideos you watch may be added to the TV's watch history and influence TV recommendations.
