Based loosely on an earlier Mercury concept car, the Crown Victoria marked the pinnacle of Ford’s full-size Fairlane range when it began its two-year model run in 1955. With its familiar chromed loop functioning as its B-pillar, this restored 1956 Ford Fairlane Crown Victoria represents one of the 9,209 similar cars built in the model’s final production year. The seller says this example underwent a “complete restoration” by the seller’s father-in-law, who reportedly drove it “sparingly” since then. The Crown Victoria is obviously finished to a high degree, powered by a non-original 292-cu.in. Thunderbird V8 and fitted with a continental kit. The seller says the Crown Victoria received a body-off restoration and is “free of rust.” POWERTRAIN This Crown Victoria is powered by a non-original copy of Ford’s 292-cu.in. Thunderbird OHV V8. With a compression ratio of 6.4:1, the Y-block engine received its fuel mixture via a four-barrel Holley carburetor and was rated by the manufacturer at 202 horsepower when new, with 289 lb-ft of torque. The non-original engine is described as an “authentic replacement” with an estimated 2,000 miles since installation. The engine is reported to need several pumps of the accelerator to start and may require a carburetor adjustment. The seller says the Ford-O-Matic three-speed automatic transmission “shifts well.” The presence of powertrain leaks is unknown. The engine bay presents as very clean. EXTERIOR The age of the Meadowmist Green paint is unknown, but it is described in “excellent condition,” with no swirls and with small chips cited as blemishes. The body seals are reported to be in good condition. The seller states that the Crown Victoria has received a body-off restoration and has “no rust.” The Crown Victoria makes extensive use of Ford dealer accessories including stone guards and a bumper guard. The car is equipped with a continental kit and extended rear bumper. All body panels appear to be straight. The Crown Victoria’s chrome trim looks to be complete and in very good, undamaged condition. The signature up-and-over roof loop appears to also be in very good condition. The glass is described as free of scratches and cracks. All lights are said to work. The underside presents as very clean, with minimal surface corrosion. INTERIOR The green cloth and vinyl interior surfaces are obviously restored, damage-free, and described as being in “excellent condition.” The carpeting is also described as being “excellent” and shows no excess wear or other issues. The headliner is termed “excellent,” with no sags and functional dome lighting. The painted steel dashboard presents strongly and according to the seller, has full factory trim and all small controls. The instrumentation is reported to have “no broken components” and “no known accuracy issues.” The factory AM radio’s functionality is unknown. An aftermarket FM receiver is installed beneath the dash. There is no air conditioning, but the heater is reported to work. The trunk has a mat and presents as very clean. CHASSIS The date of the Crown Victoria’s most recent chassis service is unknown. The power steering is reported to have “no leaks known.” The seller says the suspension components show no visible leaks or damage and notes no functional issues. The hydraulic drum brakes are said to “work fine.” The seller is unaware of whether the brakes will lock the wheels. The wire-type wheel covers are reported to be free of rash or pitting.
