The 1999-2002 “New Edge” Mustang Cobras upped their performance game with the first-ever independent rear suspension that made them capable in the corners. This 2001 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra coupe (#3591) has been dressed with a complete Saleen S281 body conversion on the outside, while under the skin is a complete Maximum Motorsports suspension upgrade, including coilovers, tubular control arms, and more, according to the consigning dealer. The car is said to be in “immaculate” condition. “This is a corner-carver, a show car or drag-strip warrior,” says the seller. POWERTRAIN The 2001 Cobra’s 32-valve, 4.6-liter DOHC V8 was a hand-built, high-performance variant of Ford’s Modular overhead-cam engine family, rated at 320 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque when new. This car is believed to retain its original engine and it reportedly starts and runs well, breathing through an aftermarket cold-air induction system. There is no reported smoke upon start up and no reported leaks from the engine, which is paired with a five-speed manual transmission that has no reported performance issues. Recent service, according to the seller, includes a new transmission mount and carrier bushings. EXTERIOR According to the seller, the True Blue paintwork on this Cobra is in “excellent” overall condition, with a few minor touched-up paint chips. There’s reportedly “no rust” in the body, either. That body has been given a complete Saleen makeover, with S281-style components including front and rear fascias, a ducktail rear spoiler, color-matched door inserts, ground effects, and more. All are reportedly in very good condition and the car also wears authentic Saleen wheels, according to the seller. The car’s glass and seals are also described in very good condition, with no reported cracks or chips in the windshield. All the exterior lights are reported functional and include smoked headlamp lenses and amber taillights. INTERIOR Inside, the seller notes the car’s charcoal leather is in very good shape, with moderate wear visible on the driver’s seat. The carpet and headliner are reportedly in great condition, while the door panels, steering wheel, and dash pad appear in very good shape, too, with no noted wear issues or damage. The seller reports all the interior lights work, along with the SVT-specific white-face gauges, power locks and windows, and air conditioning system. The car’s audio system is also said to be in working condition and the only noted aftermarket upgrade to the cabin is a weighted shift knob. CHASSIS According to the seller, the chassis, suspension, and brake components are in good condition, with no known issues or needs. The chassis and suspension have seen a number of upgrades, including performance coilovers, tubular control arms, a support brace for the independent rear suspension, a Maximum Motorsports front strut tower brace, and a Snow performance rear strut tower brace. All are reportedly in very good condition, while the car carves corners via Continental Extreme Contact tires mounted on Saleen five-spoke aluminum wheels. There are no reported blemishes or curb rash on the wheels and the tires’ tread is reportedly “at 80 percent,” but their age is unknown and their DOT date codes are not visible in the photos. An inspection is recommended prior to highway driving. DOCUMENTATION The selling dealer states that it will provide a clean Georgia title in the consignor’s name. Additional documentation for this 2001 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra includes the SVT certificate and an AutoCheck report showing no accidents. An authentic SVT Cobra is a unique performer on its own, but this one has the look of a Saleen S281 along with enhanced handling capability.
