Rare 1955 Nash Metropolitan Series II 2-door coupe (Model 542). Coral Red body (P-65), Snowberry White hard top (P-69). Ivory vinyl & ivory/black Bedford Cord interior. 70,248 original miles. 4 cylinder 1200 cc (1.2 L) Austin B-series engine, 3-speed column standard transmission (“three on the tree”). Nash emblem. Rear mount continental kit and tire cover. Hallmark “M” hubcaps.Runs like a top. Brakes are not working at the moment – needs flush and gaskets to restore. Emergency brake fully functional. Previous owner did a partial restoration on it a number of years ago to repaint with the original factory color and replace the upholstery with new old stock original upholstery. Original chrome shows some of its age, but still in great condition. Glass is excellent. On the body, one scrape on the right-front quarter panel (see photos). Some other small nicks in the paint on left rear near the taillight (see photo). Great, fun car, and it’s a real head-turner. Comes with a tote of miscellaneous accouterments – manuals, parts, memorabilia, etc.The “Metro” was the first car designed as a second family car, intended to be more fuel efficient than the primary family sedan, and it also marked the first car with a marketing campaign that deliberately targeted women. Designed by AMC, it was also the first American-designed car to be marketed in North America but built solely in Europe. This coupe was built in October 1954 in Longbridge, Birmingham, UK, then shipped to the US. Only 7,294 Metropolitans were made for model year 1955. Only 15,644 Metropolitans were sold with the Nash emblem for all model years – starting in 1957, the distinct Nash and Hudson badges were dropped and all models sported the more generic “Metropolitan” standard logos.
