Introduced by Bill Mitchell, head Cadillac and LaSalle designer,the Sixty Special quickly became one of the most influential stylesto come out of Detroit. Most notably, the new design sat threeinches lower than past models, eliminating the use of runningboards. Originally designated to be a LaSalle sport sedan, it wasdeemed too expensive and instead received the Cadillac badge. Acomplete success, this new model replaced the Series 70 as the mostexpensive owner-driven Cadillac of its day. Still, the SixtySpecial outsold every Cadillac line with a newly designed Fleetwoodbody, higher quality trim and a wood grain dash. The fender skirtsand full hubcaps on each wheel added the final touch. This stunning1941 Cadillac Series Sixty Special Sedan benefitted from a body-onrestoration, including paint and interior, in 2013. The new paintis a dark green metallic, similar to its original color. Whenexamined for restoration, there were no filler in the body andcertainly no rust on the chassis. The beautiful dark green,glove-soft leather interior and matching carpeting are - of course- impeccable. At the same time, the engine was rebuilt and a 700 R4automatic transmission was added. To enhance trouble-free andcomfortable touring, after-market air conditioning, front discbrakes, and four new Diamondback whitewall radial tires were alsoinstalled. The 6-volt electrical system was upgraded to 12-voltwith a new alternator. The radio was converted to AM/FM, but theoriginal face was kept with new electrics. An electric fuel pumpand a battery cutoff switch have been added, in addition to anelectronic ignition. All four original door panels were left intactas they were (and still are) in very nice condition. All theinstruments and glass are clear, the glass has no chips, and allthe lights and gauges work. The radiator has a new core and anauxiliary temperature gauge was added under the dash. Also addedwas an electric cooling fan, but it's rarely used as the car runscool. Since the restoration, this lovely classic has loggedapproximately 14,000 miles. It has been on several Classic Car Clubcaravans and is accepted as a Full Classic by the CCCA. This carruns perfectly and has never failed the owner. It's often used forlocal events and runs well at 70 mph on the highway. The new ownerwill have the perfect tour car with the benefit of more comfortthan it had when original. Air Conditioning, AutomaticTransmission, Am/Fm Radio, Leather Seats
