A 60-psi oil pump dispersed lubricantand resided within a baffled six-quart oil pan. A Special 800-cfmRochester Quadrajet carburetor on a cast-iron four-barrel intakemanifold feeds a custom set of exhaust routing spent gasses intothe dual mufflers before it exits out the Rear. The net result ofthe effort is a rating of 250 horsepower at 4,000 rpm and 320 lb/ftof torque at 2,800 rpm. Our engine looks as it did when it wasbuilt and sits in a very clean and detailed engine compartment withthe correct shaker hood scoop, valve covers, and power steering andpower disc brakes. Backing every T/A 6.6 engine throughout the '79model year was an 11-inch clutch disc and pressure-plate assembly,and a Borg-Warner Super T10 four-speed manual transmission with aFirst-gear ratio of 2.43:1. Because the WS6 Suspension Package wasrequired with the W72 Performance Package that year, all Firebirdsequipped with the T/A 6.6 received a 10-bolt rear axle filled witha 3.23:1 ratio gear set, and new-for-the-year J65 rear disc brakeson either end. Interior Our 1979 TA great cloth Interior has bucketseats, center console housing the 4-speed shifter, simulatedleather-wrapped Formula steering wheel, and an engine-turnedinstrument panel inlay, the standard Rally Gauge cluster whichincluded both a clock and tachometer, power windows, and airconditioning. Exterior Our '79 model featured the Pontiac freshlyredesigned nose and tail sections, both molded from a new, softerplastic material, front and rear spoilers, and wheel openingspoilers, all covered in the sharp silver-grey exterior paint andthe black Trans Am Bird on the hood. The front end sports quadheadlamps recessed into individual tunnels, while the blacked-outsplit grilles were repositioned below the lamps; turnsignal/running lamps were recessed into the grilles. The tail panelappeared to be one continuous blacked-out unit with the taillamplenses flanking the centrally positioned fuel-filler door, cloakedin matching trim. Our Pontiac has specific springs and shockabsorbers, stiffer suspension bushings, a constant-ratio steeringbox, a larger rear sway bar, and 15�-8-inch aluminum Snowflakewheels with performance Cooper Cobra Radial G/T raised white lettertires.
