This 1960 Austin-Healey Sprite Mk I Convertible has been a family project, with the seller’s grandfather performing the bodywork and engine rebuild before passing the car down to the seller, who carried out the remainder of the restoration to make the car runnable and drivable. Repainted in a correct Cherry Red, the Sprite has been updated with an electric fuel pump, an alternator packaged to look like the original generator, a modern battery, a new wiring harness, and a spin-on oil filter. The engine was also rebuilt during the restoration. FEATURES A rebuild of the BMC Austin A-series 948-cc OHV inline-four is cited.Factory rated output was 42.5 horsepower and 52 lb-ft of torque when new.A new gas tank and muffler were installed during the restoration.Both SU H1 carbs have been rebuilt.The AN5 Bugeye has the original metal bonnet.A repaint in Cherry Red is quoted.The Sprite is avowed free of body damage.The black vinyl upholstery and carpet is said to be in “excellent” condition.No seat adjustment concerns are noted.New master and slave cylinders, brake pads, and fresh fluid have been installed.Painted black, the steel wheels show well in the photos. COMES WITH A variety of loose parts are included, including necessary heater components. NEEDS A few minor paint and body imperfections are reported.Portions of the vinyl wrap have lifted from the adhesive on the dashboard and interior body panels.Heater components need to be installed and are included.Brakes are said to need bleeding to improve stopping performance.Windshield wipers need to be installed (the motor is included).The fuel level indicator is said to operate intermittently.The presence of minor rust is disclosed.Fourth gear is said to pop out while cruising occasionally.Steering shaft connector to drive assembly is loose. OVERVIEW This Cherry Red AN5 1960 Austin-Healey Sprite has been restored.An engine rebuild is reported as part of the work.Repainting of the body is also reported.Engine, transmission and suspension are complaint free.Seller states only 195 miles since restoration, which is the mileage showing on a replacement odometer. DOCUMENTATION The seller states that this vehicle will be sold on a clean Virginia title in his name. According to his disclosures, the engine has been rebuilt and runs very well. Restoration of the Austin-Healey with original components (where possible) is reported. Some parts were reportedly purchased on the aftermarket, while others were remanufactured. Based upon the seller’s disclosures, along with the appearance of this 1960 Austin-Healey Sprite Mk I Convertible in his photos, the AN5 Bugeye looks to be in good running condition. Further, the diminutive roadster seems only to need a bit more finishing to be a strong example of the model.
