Financing:
Summary:
Used 1957
Location:
Durango, CO
Description:
This 1957 Austin-Healey 100-6 Convertible was updated long ago with the engine, rear axle, wiring harness, front disc brakes, dashboard, and gauges from a 1967 Austin-Healey 3000 Mk. III, the last version of this iconic sports car. He bought car about 40 years ago and says, “It looks good, runs well, and has no major problems,” he says. Now 80 years old, the seller says he no longer drives the car. Designed by former racer Donald Healey using Austin components, the Austin-Healey 100-4 used a body made by Jensen, with final vehicle assembly in an Austin factory. For 1956, the 100-6 model replaced the original four-cylinder engine with an Austin 2.6-liter pushrod six-cylinder engine, and a few years later the 3000 replaced that with a 2.9-liter version making about 150 horsepower. FEATURES This Austin-Healey has been driven just a few hundred miles in the last six years, the seller states. The engine, rear axle, and front disc brakes are from a 1967 Austin-Healey 3000 Mk. III.The seller says he does not know if the engine was ever rebuilt.A 1989 valve job used Stellite valves and hardened seats to handle unleaded gasoline.Later valve service included phosphor-bronze guides, new springs, and other work.A stainless-steel exhaust system was installed and can be seen in the photos. The four-speed manual transmission and overdrive are original to the 100-6.The car was painted in 1990 and garaged when not in use, per the seller. He indicates some stone chips and other paint flaws (see photos).Rust in the floors has been repaired with fiberglass.Rusty lower body panels were replaced when the car was painted in 1990.The chromed 60-spoke wheels replaced the original 48-spoke painted wheels. The black Naugahyde seats feature white piping and have no damage reported. The brass plaque on the glove box door came from an Austin-Healey 100 Le Mans.Seat belts were added to the front seats. There are two choke buttons instead of one (one for each carburetor). There is a new seal on the trunk, and it does not leak.In 2018, the left front wishbone mount, tie-rod ends, and other steering parts were replaced. COMES WITH The car comes with the soft top and a factory hard top.The seller is including two sets of Plexiglas side curtains, both of which are crazed and clouded. The gas cap is from a Triumph. The seller will include a collection of books and Austin-Healey club magazines. NEEDS The engine leaks oil at the rear main seal, "a typical issue with these cars," the seller says. The transmission also leaks. The lever-action type shocks leak a bit, which the seller says is typical. There are some minor dents and paint chips. The body panel gaps are not even or matching in all cases, the seller says. The windshield has minor pits but no scratches or cracks.“Like all British roadsters of that era, the soft top leaks,” the seller says. “I didn’t drive it in the rain.”The Plexiglas in the hard top is original and shows its age.Gauges from the later Austin Healey 3000 are either non-functional, inaccurate, or disconnected. The turn signals do not work. The Widetrack radial tires were installed in 2005.The heater doesn't work because the air intake hose needs to be installed. A new hose is included in the sale. OVERVIEW This 1957 Austin-Healey 100-6 was upgraded with the engine and parts from a 1967 3000 Mk. III.The car was repainted in 1990 and the red finish still shows well. The interior appears to have also received some restoration work in the past. The seller was an active Austin-Healey club member. He garaged the car when not in use. DOCUMENTATION The seller says this vehicle will be sold on a clean Colorado title in the name of his revocable trust. He will also include receipts for most of the parts and labor. Owned for more than 40 years, this 1957 Austin-Healey 100-6 Convertible has numerous upgrades from a final-year model. The car is presented as a good driver with needs that could be addressed while enjoying the car.
